Ysgol Berfformio Dyffryn Tywi

Ysgol Berfformio Dyffryn Tywi meets on a weekly basis in Trinity College, Carmarthen. A session for young people between the ages of 11 – 18 is held on Monday evenings between 6pm – 8pm and a session for children in Years 5 and 6 on Wednesday evenings between 6pm – 8pm. Membership varies from term to term and there are currently over 70 members on roll. Children mainly come from the Carmarthen catchment area although some members come from further afield.

Its main aim is to develop the performance skills of children and young people by focussing on acting, dancing and singing. Members have the opportunity to develop their confidence, communication and social skills through the medium of Welsh.

Ysgol Berfformio Dyffryn Tywi performs an annual show in The Lyric during the Autumn term – this year, "Annie" was chosen.

In July 2008, the under 12s performed "O Dan y Don" by Gareth F.Williams and Euros Rhys in the Halliwell Theatre. Members have the opportunity to take part in dramas – they have competed and have been successful in the Urdd Drama Festival. They also have succeeded in various competitions in the Urdd Eisteddfod and National Eisteddfod. Children and young people participate in concerts, Christmas services and other musical evenings where works such as ‘Teilwng yw’r Oen’ and ‘Atgof o’r Sêr’ are presented. Members also have the opportunity to attend auditions for television series – the most notable being Elen Morgan who joined the cast of Pobol y Cwm for a while.

Members and staff of Ysgol Berfformio Dyffryn Tywi work hard but they also place an emphasis on having fun at the same time.
